Which class suits my child?

It depends on their age and how much Chinese they already know:

• Beginners’ class: for beginners from age 4 or 5 (Dutch group 1/2).
• Chinese Year 1 and 2: from Dutch group 3, using 《语文》 (Yuwen), the standard textbook in schools in China.
• Secondary-school group: on Saturday afternoons.

New pupils are placed after a short conversation on the first day of class. Not sure? Just ask us.

We speak little or no Chinese at home. Can my child still join?

Lessons are taught in Chinese and suit children who speak or understand Chinese at home best. Other children who are curious about the language are welcome too. Get in touch and we will work out which class fits.

Can we come and have a look first?

On an open day you can sit in on a lesson and talk to the teachers. Open days are announced under Notices. If you would like to meet us at another time, let us know.

When and where are the lessons?

Every Saturday at Buurtcentrum Het Kardoes, J.G. Suurhoffstraat 45, Almere. The school is on the second floor. Class times are on the front page, and the school holidays in the school calendar.

When do I drop my child off, and where do I pick them up?

Morning classes: arrive between 9:50 and 10:00. Afternoon classes: between 11:50 and 12:10. After the lesson, pick your child up in the classroom: children leave only once the parent and the teacher have seen each other.

What does my child bring?

A school bag, the textbook, a pencil and an eraser, plus a healthy snack and water. Children with lessons both morning and afternoon bring a packed lunch.

What does it cost?

Fees are paid per semester, twice a year. The amount per class and how to pay are on the For parents page.

What if my child stops partway?

Let us know at least three weeks in advance. If your child stops within a month of the start of lessons, half the fee is refunded; after that, nothing is. The full terms are on the For parents page.

Is there parking?

Yes, under the building. The first half hour is free.

How do I enrol?

Fill in the enrolment form. You will get a confirmation and a payment request within a week.

How do I stay informed?

Through the school’s WeChat group. Important notices are also posted under Notices on this website.
